The following lists basic tutorials for the art hobbist.

Adobe Illustraor

Illustrator is different from Adobe Photoshop in the sense that edits with vectors instead of pixels. Pixels are the tiny dots that make up a digital picture and determine a pictures size. A small image can have a size of 50 x 50 px (pixels). If you try to enlarge that image twice its original size, you would get a blurry picture. This is because you are taking a picture that has 50px and making it into a 100px. The computer puts in extra dots to fill in the space and the result is a not so crisp and clear picture. This is where the term "pixelated" comes from.
Vectors are different. They are not measured by pixels, instead, a vector is determined by mathematical equations. Vectors are made up of points, lines, curves, and polygons. Because they are defined mathematically, they can be enlarged to any size and not lose detail.

Creating a vector flower

  1. Select the Pen tool and create two curved lines or "paths".
  2. Go to Object > Blend > Blend Options and set it to Specified Steps = 10. Specified Steps tells how many step to blend from 1 object to another.
  3. Select the 2 petal paths, go to Object > Blend > Make or press Ctrl + Alt + B and you should get something looks this
  4. Now copy and paste this five times and just rotate the petals to make the flower.
